The Bridge Gallery is pleased to present Autumn Rhythm, the first solo exhibition of the Nigerian artist JC Bright (born in 1994) in Europe.

"Autumn Rhythm" explores the vitality and spontaneity in Bright's work. His paintings are conceived as an emotional diary, inviting viewers on an intimate journey. Using primary colors as the foundation of his work, the artist delves into his childhood in Nigeria, Igbo values, his relationship with his mother, and, more broadly, family dynamics.

JC Bright represents a new generation of African artists who refuse to be confined by restrictive narratives. His work, influenced by the artistic movements of Neoplasticism and Abstract Expressionism, challenges the constraints of figurative portraiture, which he often encountered in Nigeria. By defying global perceptions of what African art should be, Bright expresses frustration with the inequality in artistic expression and celebrates his own creative freedom. These inspirations are not merely references but also catalysts for his creative method, characterized by repetitive and irregular grids applied spontaneously and intuitively. Through his exploration of color, Bright reflects on the pressures placed on African artists to be vocal promoters of their culture on the global stage.

‘For me, it is all about color. Color is the form, the emotion, the guiding line. It is about the subjective deduction when encountering these primary hues and shades. It is about saying that I paint without structure, without configuration, and that should be enough,’ says Bright.
